A Liquid Culture Jar you can trust
Mason Jar is the most used type of liquid culture jar used by professional mushroom growers and hobby mycologists worldwide. And for a very good reason:
Mason jar’s mouth has a wide screw thread that accommodates a metal ring or ‘band’. When screwed down, it presses a separate lid against the jar’s rim. A rubber ring on the underside of the lid creates a hermetic seal which is required for grain spawn and mushroom liquid culture cultivation.
The modified liquid culture jar lids come with a pre-installed self-healing quality butyl rubber injection port and a durable, high temperature resistant 0.3-micron adhesive filter which provides a clean air exchange for the mycelium growth by keeping all contaminants outside.
The filter is made in the USA by MICROPPOSE and we truly believe it’s the best in the market.
The lids can also be used with other types of canning/preserve jars, such as 0.5L/1L Kilner, Ball or any Mason jar with a 70mm regular mouth. We also sell replacement injection ports and fully autoclavable plastic lids with pre-installed injection ports and filters.
What is a mushroom liquid culture (LC)?
Liquid culture is a sterilised nutritious mixture of water and specific kind of sugars inoculated with mushroom spores or mycelium using an injection port.
What is the purpose of using a liquid culture?
Once colonised, the mycelium-rich liquid is used to inoculate grain spawn jars or bags or even stored as mushroom culture samples in jars or syringes for future use.
What are the advantages of using mushroom liquid culture?
Inoculating your mushroom spawn bags or jars with liquid culture instead of just using spores gives you a few advantages:
- It is a lot easier to see if there are any signs of contamination when the mycelium is fully developed in a mushroom liquid culture jar. Therefore, the risk of contamination is much lower.
- Faster incubation times.
- Liquid culture can be expanded into virtually limitless amounts of jars or syringes.
